Host Manipulation, Gene Editing, and Non-Traditional Model Organisms: A New Frontier for Behavioral Research?

چکیده

Insects and parasites dominate the biosphere, in terms of known biodiversity mode life, respectively. Consequently, insects play a part many host-parasite systems, either as parasite, host, or both. Moreover, lot these systems involve adaptive parasite-induced changes host phenotype (typically behavior morphology), which is commonly manipulation. While manipulation have been described within last few decades, proximate mechanisms that underpin phenotypic change are still largely unknown. Given intimate co-evolutionary history teasing apart intricate network biochemical reactions involved requires integration various complementary technologies. In this perspective, we stress importance multidisciplinary research on manipulation, such high-throughput sequencing methods (genomics transcriptomics) to search for candidate activated during event. Then, argue gene editing technologies, specifically CRISPR-Cas9 system, powerful way test functional roles mechanisms, both parasite host. Finally, given sheer diversity unique discovered date, there indeed tremendous potential create novel non-traditional model could greatly expand our capacity fundamental aspects behavioral regulation.

Digital gene expression for non-model organisms.

Next-generation sequencing technologies offer new approaches for global measurements of gene expression but are mostly limited to organisms for which a high-quality assembled reference genome sequence is available. We present a method for gene expression profiling called EDGE, or EcoP15I-tagged Digital Gene Expression, based on ultra-high-throughput sequencing of 27-bp cDNA fragments that uniqu...

Gene Editing: Powerful New Tools for Nephrology Research and Therapy.

Biologic research is experiencing a transformation brought about by the ability of programmable nucleases to manipulate the genome. In the recently developed CRISPR/Cas system, short RNA sequences guide the endonuclease Cas9 to any location in the genome, causing a DNA double-strand break (DSB). Repair of DSBs allows the introduction of targeted genetic manipulations with high precision. Cas9-m...

A new methodology for deriving the efficient frontier of stocks portfolios: An advanced risk-return model

In this paper after a general literature review on the concept of Efficient Frontier (EF), an important inadequacy of the Variance based models for deriving EFs and the high necessity for applying another risk measure is exemplified. In this regard for this study the risk measure of Lower Partial Moment of the first order is decided to replace Variance. Because of the particular shape of the pr...
